Three silver crowns weighing around 1.25 kgs were allegedly stolen from idols at the religious place here in the wee hours today, police said.

Unidentified persons broke open the lock of gate at the Gayatri Shakti Peeth in Kanarai area and locked up its priest Heeralal, who was sleeping, before fleeing with the three crowns worth about Rs one lakh, Kharjana police inspector Sriram Mandoli said.

Later, the neighbours unlocked the priest's door and informed the Kanaria chowki about the theft, he said.

Sniffer dogs were pressed into action while a FSL team was also probing the theft, he said.

In another case, unidentified persons stole gold, silver ornaments and cash worth Rs 25 lakh from a transporter and property dealer's house on Sanver road last night, police said.

The family members had gone to attend a marriage function when they entered the house and committed the theft, they added.
