Thunderstorm, rains lash Himachal Pradesh

Normal life was thrown out of gear as a squall and thunderstorm followed by intermittent rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh today.

The adjoining tourist resort of Kufri and Nirmand and Ani areas of Kullu were lashed by a severe hailstorm causing extensive damage to apple and fruit crops.

Kangra and Jwali recorded 46 mm and 44 mm of rainfall, followed by 33 mm in Kalatop, 32 mm in Dalhousie, 16 mm in Bangana and Dharamsala, 14 mm in Sundernagar, 10 mm in Kasauli, 9 mm in Sujanpur, 8 mm in Nehri and 6 mm in Shimla, according to a MeT department here.

 

The day temperatures dropped by four to five degrees and Una which was hottest yesterday with a high of 40.8 degrees Celsius, recorded the maximum temperature at 35.0 degrees Celsius.

Bhuntar, Sundernagar and Nahan recorded a high of 32.0 degrees Celsius, 31.1 degrees Celsius and 30.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Dharamshala recorded maximum temperature at 28.6 degrees Celsius, followed by 27 degrees Celsius in Solan, 24.5 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 22.0 degrees Celsius in Kalpa and 18.5 degrees Celsius in Keylong, the MeT department said.

There was no significant change in night temperatures and Keylong recorded a low of 5.3 degrees Celsius, followed by 7.8 degrees Celsius in Manali, 8.4 degrees Celsius in Kalpa, 14.5 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar, 15.3 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 17.5 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala and Solan, 17.9 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar, 10.2 degrees Celsius in Nahan, 21.5 degrees Celsius in Palampur and 22.8 degrees Celsius in Una.

The MeT office has predicted thundershowers and rains at many places in the mid hills and rains or snow in the higher hills from May 3 to May 8.
