The half-eaten carcass of a female tiger cub was found in Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra's Nagpur district Thursday morning, a senior forest official said.

The dead cub, around 12 months old, was the offspring of a tigress known as 'T-15', said Field Director of the reserve Ravikiran Govekar.

During a routine patrolling, forest guard Komal Davkare found a severed hind leg of a cub near a stream in Devlapar range, he said.

Rest of the carcass, partially eaten, was found within hundred metres from the spot.

Preliminary investigation showed that the cub was attacked by another tiger, probably a dominant male, Govekar said.

Devlapar range is known for a high density of tigers. As per the latest estimates, it is home to 38 adult tigers.
