Police said the Congress leaders demanded that action be taken against Swamy for his comments that "Gandhi consumes cocaine" and sa

The comments were made to "disrespect" Gandhi and the Congress, they said.

They said that though Swamy was aware that his statement was false, he had made it "with an ill motive to encourage and bolster hostility between political parties and to further provoke people to indulge in illegal and notorious conflicts in breach of public peace and tranquility."

Congress said in a release that they burnt an effigy of Swamy, protesting against his statement.

In Rajasthan, Congress leaders filed four petitions in different courts in the state Monday against Swamy, saying his remarks have hurt their sentiments and action should be taken against him for defaming Gandhi.

On Saturday night, an FIR was registered in Chhattisgarh against Swamy following a complaint lodged by state Congress leader Pawan Agrawal.
