TMC 'slightly ahead' of Left, says Mishra

Days after senior CPI(M) leader Gautam Deb said that Left Front does not have enough strength to defeat the ruling Trinamool Congress on its own, party's West Bengal secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra today said the TMC is 'slightly ahead' of the Left in terms of mass support.

"In terms of political balance, the ruling TMC is still slightly ahead of the Left. We need to change the situation and we will change it. The mass support of the TMC is also eroding very fast. We need to change this political balance as early as possible," Mishra told a press conference.

Deb on Friday last had kicked up a political storm by stating that the Left Front in West Bengal was now left with not enough strength to defeat the TMC in the next Assembly elections on its own and had hinted at an "understanding" with the Congress.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, however, dismissed the suggestion yesterday saying the party will follow the resolutions adopted in the last Party Congress of not aligning or joining any front with the Congress.
