Keen on maintaining an intensive, vigilant and efficient disaster management system in all its districts, Tamil Nadu Government today announced creation of Tehsildar level postings for handling emergency situations during disasters.
Following the creation of District Disaster Management Authorities in all districts by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the government has now created Tehsildars post exclusively for disaster management in all 32 districts, Revenue Minister R B Udhaya Kumar said in the assembly.
A sum of Rs 4.15 crore from the World Bank would be utilised for this initiative, he said.

The government would also computerise pattas in urban areas like it did in the case of rural areas earlier.
While the urban pattas computerisation had been completed in Chennai Corporation area, work in other corporations and municipalities would be taken up, he said.
A total of 2,944 Village Administrative Officer (VAO) postings would be filled up during 2014-15, he added.
