Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that Rs three lakh has been disbursed and another Rs two lakh per person was sanctioned to those infected with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) who underwent dialysis at the Government Stanely Medical College Hospital here from March 1 last year.

A statement in this regard was made by the Government Pleader S T S Moorthy before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T S Sivagnanam.

The matter related to a PIL by one Jayaram Venkatesan who sought a direction to the authorities to list out all the patients who underwent dialysis from March 1, 2014 till date for treatment for kidney failure and were suddenly infected with HCV from the Stanley Hospital.

He had also sought specialised treatment free of cost to all affected victims and award adequate compensation to them.

He claimed that none of these patients had HCV infection when they came to the hospital and contracted it allegedly due to the hospital not following infection control mechanisms.
