The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order transferring all idol theft cases in the state from idol wing police to the CBI, a decision flayed by the Opposition DMK.
The Home department order, was issued yesterday when the government informing the Madras High Court that it had taken a policy decision to hand over all idol theft cases to the CBI as the idol wing was "not performing satisfactorily."
The G.O, said factors like some cases having both domestic and international 'ramifications,' requirement of extradition in some cases and the involvement of central agencies as part of the investigation were considered for the transfer of the probe.
Meanwhile, DMK Working President MK Stalin, questioned the motive behind the government transferring the probe to CBI.
"When a fair probe is on under IG Pon Manickavel, the AIADMK government's decision to suddenly hand over the cases to the CBI has some hidden political motives," he said in a statement.
He also questioned the government's move on the matter, saying the investigation was being monitored by the High Court.
