The Tamil Nadu government today presented its first supplementary estimates for the current year 2013-14 for a sum of Rs 5,898.19 crore.

Finance Minister O Panneerselvam presented the estimates before the Assembly.

Out of the amount, Rs 4,829.67 crore is in the Revenue Account and Rs 1,068.52 crore in the Capital and Loan accounts, he said.

"The additional expenditure included in these estimates will be met through higher growth in states own tax revenue and also by bringing more efficiency in control of expenditure," he said.

The major items of expenditure included Rs 1,004.86 crore of "financial commitment" as part of drought-relief measures, Rs 136.36 crore towards distribution of free dhoties and sarees during Pongal festival next year and Rs 228.36 crore for supplementary nutrition under Integrated Child Development Services Scheme.

The first supplementary estimates was presented before the Assembly on account of government sanctioning 'New Service' and 'New Instrument of Serice' since the Budget for the year 2013-14, which was presented in March, he said.
