Forecasting a fall in prices after this month due to poor demand, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has advised farmers in the state to sell coconut and copra immediately.

There would be chances for reduction in prices after January due to poor demand for oil from North India, an analysis by the Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre in TNAU said.

Price of good quality coconut during January-March, will be Rs.10-11 per nut and good quality copra will rule around Rs.50-53 per kg.

Current arrivals from Tamil Nadu have already commenced and periodical rains had boosted the production of nuts, while arrivals from Mysore have also commenced from last month and will continue till January end, it said.

Currently, copra is ruling at Rs. 51-60 per kg in the Perunthurai Cooperative Marketing Society and Avalpoondurai regulated markets, it said.

Festival season in upcoming months will enhance the demand, but price will be stable during this period due to the higher arrivals, the analysis said.
