TNCC chief directed to appear in defamation case

A local court today issued summons to Tamil Nadu Congress chief E V K S Elangovan in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by the state government against him.
Principal Sessions Court Judge Jaichandran summoned Elangovan to appear before the court personally on or before August 4.
In an interview to a TV channel in April, Elangovan had allegedly made derogatory remarks against the state governor K Rosaiah and chief minister Jayalalithaa.

The court also issued summons to Editor of Tamil bi-weekly 'Nakkeeran', R R Gopal, its Special Correspondent Damodharan Prakash and reporter Arun to appear before it on or before August 5 for publishing an article in its May issue which allegedly contained defamatory references to the chief minister.
City Public Prosecutor M L Jegan had filed the defamation cases before the Principal Sessions Court.
