Toddler drowns

woman along with her two sons jumped into Bhagirathi river near Katwa from a boat today but two of them were saved by the boatsmen.

Police said the boatsmen saved the woman and her elder son aged 4 years, while the younger one - the toddler aged about one and half years was drowned.

The three had boarded the passenger boat at Kaliganj in Nadia and jumped into the river midstream, police said adding search is on for the toddler son.

The woman was taken to Katwa police station where she claimed that she had taken the drastic steps due to torture by her mother-in-law.
