The Delhi Police issued a traffic

advisory today asking the general public to avoid certain routes owing to a religious procession being taken out by Shia Muslim community to observe Chehlum tomorrow.

The procession starting at 9 in the morning will be taken out from Imambara, Pahari Bhojla and reach Karbala, Jorbagh, in the evening.

According to the advisory, state-run DTC and other buses will be diverted while no traffic will be allowed towards Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Faiz Bazar, Dariba and Link road, Hauz Qazi Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Ajmeri Gate, Lahori Gate Chowk, Hauz Qazi Chowk, Thompson Road, Lal Quan, Pahar Ganj Bridge, New Delhi railway station and Chelmsford Road.
 

Cross traffic will be allowed at Tolstoy Marg, Ashoka Road , Red Cross Road, Rafi Marg, Akbar Road, Aurangzeb Road and Prithvi Raj Road during gaps in the procession.

"Those going to New Delhi Railway Station, particularly in the evening, should leave in advance and have sufficient time for possible delay in routes.

"For reaching New Delhi Railway Station, people should avoid Connaught Place and reach Ajmeri Gate side through Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg or through Rajghat and Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg depending on movement of procession," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.

The officials have asked the people to avail public transport to avoid congestion of roads. They also asked commuters to remain vigilant and report to the police about any unusual object or individual.

Adequate traffic arrangements have been made to ensure proper movement of devotees and to keep the general flow of traffic smooth, said Shukla.
