The rear coach of the Chennai-Mangaluru express derailed at Marnamikatte here this afternoon while being taken to the yard for cleaning and maintenance, railway sources said.
There were no passengers in the coach when it jumped off the track.
The train, which had arrived at Mangaluru Central station, was moving in reverse to the yard when it overshot the shunting neck and climbed the end platform, possibly due to over speeding, the sources said.
