Transport Ministry considering tie-up with IITs

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is considering using the expertise of IITs in its infrastructure projects.

Minister for Road, Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari today held a meeting with senior HRD Ministry officials and directors of several IITs regarding using the expertise of the prestigious institutes of technology and engineering for better implementation of projects, officials said.

"Met directors of all IITs and discussed the plan for their collaboration with Ministry of RTH & Shipping (sic)," Gadkari tweeted.

"IIT directors spoke on the importance of technology, advanced material and innovation for upgradation of the sector," the minister said in another tweet.
 

Officials said IITs can assist the ministry in many ways, including in evaluation of project reports to carry out researches in relevant areas.

At the meeting, it was also suggested that committees comprising experts from both IITs and the ministry could be formed, sources said.
