A travel agent has been arrested for allegedly duping a person of Rs 1.5 lakh on the pretext of sending his son abroad, police said today.

Beera Ram, a resident of Dharamkot area here, in his complaint alleged that travel agent Maghu Ram had promised to send his son Ramesh Kumar to Italy, they said.

The deal was settled at Rs 6 lakh and the first instalment of Rs one lakh was given to the agent in December 2010, said the complainant.

The agent assured to send Ramesh to Italy within one month. The complainant further said that the second instalment of Rs 50,000 was given to the agent in January 2011.

However, the agent neither sent Ramesh to Italy nor returned money, Ram alleged in his complaint.

A case has been registered against the agent under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of IPC, police said.
