Travel agent booked for duping man of rupees 9.3 lakhs

A travel agent has been arrested for allegedly duping a person of Rs 9,30,000 by promising him a job in a Australia, police said today.

Acting upon the complaint filed by Balwinder Singh hailing from Himachal Pradesh yesterday, police registered a case against Ashok Thakur under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested him from his house here, police said.

The travel agent promised to provide him visa, passport and tickets for the Australia, about a year back. However, the accused had allegedly after receiving Rs 9,30,000 had given him a ticket of Thailand promising that rest of the formalities would be completed in that country, police said.
 

The complainant went to Thailand kept on waiting for the travel agent at a specified place, but the accused did not turn up Singh had to return to India, police said.

The accused is still at large and investigation is under way, they said.
