Punjab government has asked the authorities concerned to ensure that each travel agent in the state gets registered under the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act by October.
In a communique issued here today, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sukhbir Badal asked all the deputy commissioners to start the registrations on a campaign basis, and issue licenses to the travel agents.
Badal said these directions have been issued to keep a tab on illegal activities of many unscrupulous travel agents who are working without registration, and exploiting the people.

To prevent these malpractices, the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act was passed, he said.
Under the act, travel agents, emigration consultants or ticketing agents have to get registered.
D S Bains, Principal Secretary (Home) said that the act and ruled have been uploaded on the Punjab government website.
