Travel company executive held with lakhs of foreign currency

An executive of a travel company was today detained by CISF authorities for carrying a huge cache of foreign currency including 1.45 lakh US Dollars and hundreds of Pounds and Euros at Agartala airport.

The person has been identified as one Sumit Singh who was detained by the Central Industrial Security Force sleuths while he was about to take a flight from Agartala to Kolkata in the evening.

CISF Additional Director General (Airport security) in Delhi O P Singh told PTI that the person was questioned.

Officials said the executive of the firm was allowed to take his flight under detention and he is being currently interrogated by officials at Kolkata airport.
 

Sumit's baggage, officials said, contained Rs 1.45 lakh USD, 35,000 Pounds and 7,885 Euros and he was detained as he was not able to immediately disclose the source and purpose of carrying such a huge amount of foreign currency.

CISF, along with other agencies, has stepped up surveillance at airports in view of the forthcoming polls in various states of the country.
