The Madras High Court today directed a court here to complete within six months the trial of a criminal case filed against DMK President M Karunanidhi's daughter Selvi and her son-in-law in 2013 for allegedly cheating and threatening a man over a land deal.
Justice P N Prakash, passing orders on a petition by one V Nedumaran, on whose complaint the case had been filed, directed the Judicial Magistrate of Poonamalee to expedite the proceedings and complete the trial within six months from the date of receipt of the copy of the order.
The petitioner submitted that the accused with their political background were dragging the case with an oblique motive and wilful intention.

According to him, Selvi's son-in-law Jyothimani, claiming to be the power agent of a 2.94 acre property in Thalampur Village, promised to sell it to him for Rs.5.14 crore.
He paid an advance of Rs.3.5 crore by way of cheque and cash. After receiving the advance, Jyothimani neither executed the sale deed nor returned the money paid by him.
He also sold the property to one G S K Velu by suppressing the facts, the petitioner alleged.
When he went to enquire about it with Selvi, the principal owner of the property, he was attacked physically, dragged out and threatened with dire conseuquences, the petitioner alleged.
Based on his complaint, a case was registered but the case was pending in the Poonamalee court. Hence he moved the High Court.
