Tribal 'couple' blackened, paraded in MP over love affair

A tribal man and a married woman were allegedly beaten up and blackened by Khokariya villagers here after they disapproved of a relationship between the two, police said here today.

The incident took place last night in Dhamnod Police Station area of the district, when the duo were roughed up, partially undressed and paraded through Khokariya, Balwari and Bayadipura villages over their alleged affair, they said.

They were also tied to a pole inside a Garba pandal and blackened before the parade.

According to police, the man (30) and the woman (35), who is a mother of five, were in love. The local panchayat did not approve of this apparently and decided to teach them a lesson.
 

Their medical examination has been conducted at the local community health centre and about 20 persons have been arrested today in connection with the incident, police said, adding investigations are on.
