Tribes employed in tea gardens to be brought under pension

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired a Tribal Advisory Council meeting here today in which it was decided that tribesmen employed in tea gardens would be brought under the pension scheme.

Banerjee said the meeting also reviewed the progress of the programmes undertaken by the Council in its second meeting in February last year.

The matters reviewed included providing cycles to SC/ST students of north Bengal and expediting Rangali project for providing houses for Lepcha tribals, she said.

Today was the third meeting of the Council which was set up in 2013 to work for the development of tribals of north Bengal.
