"We are shocked and offended by this latest hike. Like in the past unfortunately this time too we have not been consulted," Kunal Ghosh, party Rajya Sabha MP and a close aide of the Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said.

"We have learnt of it through the media. If Mamata Banerjee had been informed, she would not have agreed to it," Ghosh said.

He said it was unfortunate that the Centre was taking "unilateral decisions" without consulting the Trinamool Congress, the second largest constituent of the UPA.

The diesel price hike would hit farmers and increase the burden on the common people and the decision on LPG would affect households, he said.

"We demand immediate rollback of the price hike of diesel and the decision on LPG," he said.
