Over a dozen trucks transporting cows, buffaloes and goats allegedly to a slaughter house in Ghazipur were intercepted and the cattle rescued near central Delhi's ITO with the help of an NGO, police said today.
The NGO, People for Animals (PFA), rescued the animals with the help of some commuters and locals.
Six persons have been arrested by personnel of Shakarpur police station and efforts are on to nab more, police said, adding that eight of these trucks were seized by east Delhi's Shakarpur police station and nine by IP Estate police.

Police officials said the NGO got an information that the animals, allegedly procured from states like Haryana and Rajasthan, were being transported to a slaughter house in Ghazipur.
The NGO workers, along with local commuters, then blocked the road to stop the smugglers from fleeing.
Angry public resorted to violence and about eight to 10 trucks were smashed while one was set ablaze.
The entire episode led to a massive traffic snarl on the busy Ring Road that continued for hours.
The traffic snarl which began at 11 PM yesterday continued till today. At about 3 AM, one side of the ITO Bridge was freed and vehicle movement eased a little, a police officer said.
