A 32-year-old Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel allegedly killed his lover and then committed suicide with his service weapon at Durjoynagar near here, police said today.
Mrinal Das, a rifleman of the Ninth battalion of TSR, who was in his uniform, entered the rented house of his girlfriend Tanushree Karmakar (25) on Monday night, Superintendent of Police, police control, Uttam Kumar Bhowmik said.
Das shot his girlfriend dead with the automatic weapon before turning the gun on himself, the SP said.
TSR is regarded as one of the best paramilitary forces in the country which played a pivotal role in combating the three-decade-old insurgency problem in Tripura.
