Turmeric prices were down by 2.81 per cent to Rs 6,650 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators reduced positions, tracking a weak trend at spot market on sluggish demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in September plunged Rs 192, or 2.81 per cent to Rs 6,650 per quintal with an open interest of 15,510 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in August contract lost Rs 172, or 2.61 per cent to Rs 6410 per quintal in 1260 lots.

Market analysts said offloading of positions by speculators, taking weak cues fromt spot market on subdued demand, mainly pulled down turmeric prices at futures trade.
