Normal life came to a standstill in Imphal valley due to a 24-hour general strike called by two joint action committees.
The strikes began at 6 am and in several localities people came out in large numbers, blocked roads and burnt tyres to enforce the agitation.
A few vehicles were vandalised but there was no major incident of violence reported from any part of the valley.
The joint action committees are demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the killing of locals B Pitaranjan and S Prashanta.
Pitaranjan was found dead at Kangkhum village in Ukhrul district on April 24, while Prashanta's body with his eyes blindfold was found hanging at Lilong area in Thoubal district on April 26 morning.
