Two arrested for graft

Police said the two were picked up based on findings of a preliminary inquiry by the district admionistration after locals in Hajo area complained against them.

The duo are Kamal Baisya, a gramin rojgar sahayak at the Shaheed Nagen Deka Gram panchayat, and Birendra Deka, postmaster of the Ujanpuri post office.

It is alleged that the duo misappropriated Rs 59.49 lakh disbursed by the government under MNREGA schemes between 2008-09 and 2011-12.

Police are interogating the duo.
