Two people were burnt alive in a village here with the police investigating allegations that it could be a case of murder.

The police arrested a friend of the two on Tuesday, suspecting that he might be involved in the deaths in Chorkandi village, Pauri Sub-Divisional Magistrate Yogesh Mehra said.

A cylinder burst is also suspected as its regulator pin was broken and the kitchen walls were burnt, Mehra said

Three friends, Dhiraj Singh (42), Roop Singh (43) and Ajit Gusain (40), had gathered at Dhiraj's home on Monday evening to party as his wife and parents were away, the SDM said.

They drank, dined and spent the night together but Dhiraj Singh and Roop Singh were found burnt this morning.

Roop Singh's wife informed the additional district magistrate, who arrived on the spot with force and took charge of the bodies, besides arresting Gusain on suspicion.

Gusain, who is being interrogated, has confessed to having a fight with the victims, the SDM said.

According to Gusain, he did not spent the night with the two as his mother took him home, police said.
