A thief allegedly stole a purse which contained some money and other valuables from a taxi hired by two Canadian tourists, police said today.

The thief stole 150 Canadian dollars, Rs 20,000 Indian currency notes, ATM card, a mobile phone and other important documents from the taxi hired by Linda Ramsay and her son Robert Ramsay, they said.

The incident took place yesterday on Delhi-Jaipur Highway, near Bawal, about 15 kms from here.

The mother-son duo were travelling from Delhi to Jaipur when the engine of their taxi overheated. The driver of the vehicle got down to examine it and the remaining occupants too alighted after some time.

While the driver was busy fixing the engine, a thief took the belongings of the tourists, police said.

A case of theft was registered on the complaint of the Canadian nationals.

A senior police official said efforts were on to trace the as yet unidentified accused.
