Two Customs officials convicted in bribary case

Two Customs officials, including a Deputy Commissioner, were today convicted in a bribery case filed by CBI, with a special court awarding them one year rigorous imprisonment each.
A case was registered by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of CBI in 2010 against V S Sundararajan, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Courier Cell air Cargo Complex, and D Ramani, Appraising Officer, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1,500 from V P Traders for clearing a consigment of two printed circuit boards, the agency said in a release.
The firm preferred a complaint and the two were "caught red-handed" while accepting the bribe, it said.
"On completion of trial, R Killivalavan, XII Additional Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai, pronounced Judgement convicting Sundararajan and Ramani and sentencing them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year each," it said, adding, a total fine of Rs 6,000 was imposed on them.
