Two-day fruit show begins

Highlighting the need to protect the wildlife, the 57th Fruits Show, began at Sims Park here today, displaying various animals made of grapes and oranges.

The cynosure of all the eyes was a Indian Gaur and its calf, made of grapes, standing tall at seven foot and four foot, respectively, from the Horticulture department, Nilgiris district.

Other attractions include elephant made of grapes and a lion made of orange and sweet lime rinds.

The show, part of the annual festival being observed in Nilgiris district as part of attracting tourists, both domestic and foreign,who throng during summer, was inaugurated by the district collector, P Shankar.
 

A 15-foot tall arch made of different fruits, including pine apple, apple, orange and banana, welcomed the visitors inside the park.
