Two farmers commit suicide in Washim district

Two farmers, one of them a woman, allegedly committed suicide in adjoining Washim district of Vidarbha region apparently due to crop failure and mounting debt.

Sandeep Shelke (22), a resident of village Mungla in Malegaon taluka, hanged himself yesterday, police said today.

The woman farmer, Durgatai Deshmukh (55), of village Kata, committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Friday, they said.

Both farmers were under stress due to constant failure of crops and increasing loan burden, police said, adding, cases of accidental deaths have been registered.
