Two govt officials held for taking bribe

Two officials of the state power transmission company were arrested in Kota for allegedly taking bribe from a contractor, police said today.

Superintendent Engineer M K Agrawal and Technical Assistant T A Jugdish Lal Khateek of the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited were arrested yesterday while they were taking Rs 21,000 and Rs 5,500, respectively, from contractor Suresh Gehlot at their office, said ASP (Anti Corruption Bureau), Bhilwara, Bheem Singh Beeka.

The officials were taking bribe from Gehlot of Ajmer for issuing orders for two new contracts and sanctioning the security deposit amount of his previous works, said Beeka.
 

Following a complaint by the contractor, the ACB had laid a trap to nab the duo and caught them while taking the bribe.

A sum of Rs 26,500 was recovered from the two officials, Beeka said.

Their interrogation and searches at their residences continued till late last night and the report of the recovery of the items from their possession has not yet been received, he said, adding that the duo will be produced in the court this afternoon.

Agrawal owns properties and houses in Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur, the ASP said.
