Two groups in Tosh village in the district today clashed and opened fire at each other after a villager allegedly diverted water from a canal to his field to which members of the other group objected, police said.
No one was injured in the clash, they said.
According to police, last evening one Rautan Singh allegedly diverted the water, which was flowing towards the field of one Amar Singh, to his fields.
To which Amar and his group members objected, and today people supporting Rautan Singh and Amar Singh clashed and opened fire on each other, a senior police official said, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
Police rushed to the spot as soon as they got information about the incident and averted an major clash, Dy SP RK Gautam said, adding that as soon as police arrived the villagers fled.
However, 12 people were arrested, he said.
"Named FIR has been registered against three dozen villagers," SP (City) Mukul Dwivedi said.
He said arms license of those who were involved in the firing would be cancelled if they were found to be involved in the incident, also they would have to furnish a bond of Rs five lakh.
Dwivedi said the situation was under control, however, a police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
