Two persons were detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act on charge of running prostitution racket in different parts of the city, police said today.

P Sudhakar Reddy and Boda Raju were detained under the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Prevention of Dangerous Activities of bootleggers, dacoits, drug offenders, goondas immoral traffic offenders and land grabbers Act.

"The duo were detained as part of promoting women's safety under a special drive undertaken by police to create deterrence in the minds of immoral traffic offenders who have been exploiting innocent girls by inducing them with deceitful means and by organising brothel houses for monetary gains and causing wide spread contagious diseases endangering public health at large," a release said.

The activities of such offenders are prejudicial to the maintenance of the public order and public health at large and in order to preventing them from commission of similar crimes repeatedly, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy has issued orders to detain Sudhakar Reddy and Boda Raju.

Reddy was arrested previously on several occasions and also convicted while Raju was recently arrested. The duo were on bail.

On June 22, while police raided a location at Jubillee Hills here and busted a call girl racket, Reddy attacked a police party with a knife and grievously injured a head constable and a constable before escaping from the scene.

He was subsequently arrested on June 30.
