Two kanwariyas drowned in the Rapti river while taking a holy dip at Haliyapur ghat here this morning, police said.
The deceased - Pankaj Verma (22) and Subhash (24) - had gone to the ghat along with other kanwariyas to take water when the accident occurred, Superintendent of Police Sabharaj said.
The bodies were later fished out with the help of divers, the SP said, adding that they have been sent for post-mortem.
An ex-gratia of Rs four lakh each will be extended to the families of both the deceased, officials said.
