Two militants arrested in Assam

Two hand grenades meant for militant NDFB-Songbijit were recovered from a surrendered extremist of the outfit in Assam's Chirang district, while a cadre of National Santhal Liberation Army was nabbed with a pistol in Kamrup (Rural) district, a top police officer said.

"During an operation by police in Bengtol area last night the surrendered ultra - John Daimary alias Jayanta Daimary - was apprehended with the four grenades," IGP LR Bishnoi told PTI today.

Daimary was an arms supplier for National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit and was carrying the explosives for the outfit from Dimapur in Nagaland, he said.

The NSLA cadre identified as Uttam Hansda was picked up from Chaygaon area with a 7.65 mm pistol, two rounds of ammunition, one magazine and a mobile hand set, he added.
