Two minors drown in canal in Saran district

Two minors drowned in a canal near Dhobi Ghat at Chak Sahbaj village in Bihar's Saran district, police said.

Parsa officer-in-charge Rajrup Rai said that the incident occurred when the two children (brother-sister) were playing near canal and slipped into it.

The deceased have been identified as Nilam Kumari (12) and Pijan Kumar (08). Both are the residents of Alipur village under Sonepur police station of the district and had gone to their maternal grand father's house at Chak Sahbaj village.

Local people have fished out the bodies from the canal, he said.

Meanwhile, a 40 year old Ramanand Singh drowned in the tributary of river Ganga when his boat capsized near Meghu Tola under Amdabad police station of Katihar district.
 

Amdabad SHO Ajit Kumar said that Singh, who did not know swimming, used to cross the river on daily basis from his small boat.

The body has been handed over to the deceased's family after conducting a post mortem, the SHO said.
