Two commandos of the Quick Response Team (QRT) of Mumbai Police were injured today after an assault rifle of their colleague accidentally fell off his hand and went off in suburban Dahisar, police said.
Commando Rajesh Kumbhar has been admitted to hospital after a bullet pierced through his thigh and an enquiry has been ordered, they said.
According to the police, the incident happened around 2 PM when commando Harish Padyal was entering a room after his duty for the day, while Kumbhar and his colleague Sachin Avghade were simultaneously stepping out of the room.

Accidentally Padyal's AK-47 rifle slipped to the ground and went off. A bullet grazed Avghade's leg before it pierced through Kumbhar's thigh, the police said.
While Avghade was discharged after treatment, Kumbhar has been shifted to the Malad-based Surana Hospital's intensive care unit.
Although prima facie, it appeared to be an accidental firing, an inquiry has been initiated, the police said.
