Two rowdies shot dead by police

Two history-sheeters were shot dead by police when they attacked them near here today, police said.

Superintendent of Police Manivannan said following a tip-off, a team had gone to arrest Manthiri and Sakuni Karthick in connection with a murder case at Sikkandhar Chavadi, 15 km from here.

The accused attacked the team and as one of them was waving a pistol, police opened fire in self-defence, the police said.

A police man was injured in the melee.

Police said a drive has been launched against criminals as part of steps to control crimes in the city.
