Two school boys drowned in a pond which was temporarily dug up in Bidhnu area here, police said today.
Aayush (14) and Mohan (15), both Class 10 students, were returning home from coaching class when they stopped near the pond at Ganganagar Dooda colony in Bidhnu, police said.
Aayush went to take a bath in the pond but soon started drowning. Following this, Mohan jumped into the pond to save his friend but he, too, drowned in the water, police said.
The bodies of victims were fished out later.
The families of the boys and other villagers alleged that the death was caused by illegal mining due to which the dug up part was left uncovered resulting in formation of the water body, they said, adding a probe in the case has been ordered.
