A local court today sentenced two persons to rigorous imprisonment for ten years for illegally transporting ganja about four years ago.
Additional District Judge Rekha Prasad pronounced the jail term while convicting Satrughna Dalai of Badiamba village in Gajapati district and Manoj Swain of Begunia in Khurda district under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh on each them.
The two were arrested near Maluabhanja Chhaka on Taptapani-Digaphandi Road on April 26, 2012 after excise department personnel seized about 285 kg of ganja while they were transporting the contraband in a car illegally, he said.
