Two wardens were today placed under suspension following the alleged suicide of a rape convict at the premises of the Central Jail here.
Srinivasan (47), who was undergoing imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Erode district, was working in the jail campus.
He suddenly went and hanged himself from the ceiling fan on the verandah, police said.
He died on the way to hospital, they said..
After conducting a departmental inquiry, Jail Superintendent Senthilkumar placed the wardens--Palanivelu and Thirunavukkarasu-- under suspension for negligence of duty, police said.
