Three persons, including two women, were arrested for allegedly printing fake currency notes and circulating them in market here in Gujarat, police said Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off that two women were using fake currency notes to make purchases in the Sardar Gam locality, police arrested the duo, Wahidaben Ramodiya (50) and Manju Raniga (50), Saturday, an official said.

Eighty-seven pieces of counterfeit notes in denominations of Rs 200 and Rs 500 with a face value of Rs 19,000 were recovered from them, he said.

On interrogation, the duo told the police that notes were printed using a colour printer by one Vasantbhai Rajput at Wahidaben Ramodiya's house on Dudhsagar Road, Ajidam police station inspector P N Vaghela said.

"We raided the house and arrested Rajput and also seized a colour printer, scanner and papers used to print fake currency notes," he said.

The police also seized three fake notes in Rs 200 denomination from shopkeepers which were circulated by the accused, Vaghela said, adding further investigation was on.
