Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was today handed over a report of a panel that looked into the reasons for the defeat of UDF candidate and JD(U) state president M P Veerendra Kumar in Palakkad in the last Lok Sabha polls.

The report recommended action against certain local leaders responsible for the defeat. It was handed over by UDF Convener P P Thankachan, Front sources said.

The panel, which had been set up by the UDF to study the defeat, had found fault in poll preparations by Palakkad DCC Secretary, C Balagopal, KPCC Secretary, C Chandran, who was general secretary of the poll campaign committee, and Palakkad Congress Committee President C V Balachandaram.

In an attempt at mollifying the JD(U), a coalition partner in the UDF, Chandy, also Front Chairman, had on April 28 met Veerendra Kumar and assured him that all issues raised by him would be resolved soon and action taken after getting the report.

The next UDF meet would discuss the report, sources said.

JD(U) had wanted action against the Congress leaders who worked against the UDF candidate. Veerendra Kumar had also asked UDF to make public the report. He had also stated that his party was not getting due consideration from UDF.
