Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has asked district officials to complete the distribution of LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to the remaining 15 lakh beneficiaries by April this year.

Twenty-eight lakh people have already benefited from the scheme in Jharkhand, an official release said.

The chief minister was taking stock of the progress made in the distribution of LPG cylinders and ovens to the beneficiaries of the scheme at a review meeting here yesterday.

The PMUY aims to safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel so that they do not have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas collecting firewood.

Das also warned against corruption in the schemes meant for the poor.

"The 20-point programme Vice Chairperson at the state-level should review the district level 20-point programme every 15 days. Those who indulge in corrupt practices in poor people's scheme will face the consequences," the release quoting the chief minister said.
