University of Chicago in partnership with Tata Trusts will launch a new centre that will work towards solutions for practical development issues faced across diverse areas.

Tata Centre for Development would also help build capacity for government, corporate and non-profit groups.

"The Centre will focus on having an integrated approach for socio-economic development," Professor Anup Malani, faculty director of the Tata Centre for Development told PTI here.

Initially, TCD would focus in the areas of health, water, sanitation, energy and environment, he added.

It would look to integrate evidence-based policy research, an innovative implementation platform as well as leadership in education programme to tackle practical development issues.

TCD, to be located at the University of Chicago's centre in the national capital, would also engage experts from the university and other organisations.

"Now more than ever before, there is an urgent need to address social and economic development challenges in India, Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata said in a release.

"We have long believed in the importance of challenging traditional methods of intervention. I am keen to see the Tata Centre for Development at University of Chicago implement its new model for integrating research and achieving high-impact outcomes," he said.
