Unlicensed crackers worth Rs 30 lakhs were seized from two godowns here and one person was taken into custody in connection with the unauthorized storage, police said today.

According to Superintendent of Police, P Harikrishna, the seizures were made last night after a squad from Antiguda Police station raided the godowns located in the residential locality of Mochiveedi in the heart of city.

The area, where the godown is located is densely populated and storage of explosive items poses danger to life of locals, he said.

The crackers, kept for Diwali sale, were stored without requisite bills, government license and permission.

A case was registered under the Explosive Materials Act against the godown owner and further investigations are on.

After the raid, Rajahmundry Sub-collector K Vijayaramaraju, Additional Superintendent of police Saratbabu, Fire officer Pardhasaradhi and other high officials visited the spot and urged locals to tip off policemen about illegal storage of crackers in the area if any.
