UNSC agrees to cuts to Darfur peacekeeping force

The UN Security Council today agreed to a major drawdown of the peacekeeping mission in Darfur as part of a US-led drive to trim hundreds of millions of dollars from the UN budget.
The council voted unanimously to approve a British- drafted resolution that would cut the number of troops and police serving in the joint African Union-UN mission known as UNAMID by at least 30 per cent.
